When Josh Block left the office on Friday, he was a regional sales representative. By Monday morning, he was president of the company. His unexpected promotion threw him into the deep end of leadership—facing the same challenges many leaders encounter daily: reengaging a disheartened team, restoring trust, and creating a culture where people love to work.
In People Matter at Work, Block shares his story of navigating crisis leadership by shifting the focus from individual survival to collective success. He exposes the toxic grip of the Me-Cycle—a self-preserving mindset in which bosses and employees operate in silos and primarily look out for themselves. It’s a surefire recipe for disengagement and dysfunction.
The antidote? The We-Cycle—a transformational approach powered by leaders who work together, make thoughtful decisions, and lead with transparency. These leaders create cultures where people feel safe, seen, and successful. When leaders embody this mindset and put people first, team members respond in kind—carrying trust, ownership, and generosity. This deepens commitment and fuels a culture where performance shines and everyone wins.
With empathy and hard-won insight, Block offers real-world, practical tools for leaders at any level to turn workplaces into communities of shared purpose, growth and belonging. Because leadership isn’t just about confidence and competence—it’s about cultivating a culture where people thrive.
Whether you’re an aspiring leader or leading from the top, People Matter at Work shows how the most successful companies build from the inside out—by choosing we over me.

Every time I see a kite rise into the sky, I’m reminded that joy doesn’t have to be complicated. Kites slow your mind down, pull you out of stress, and reconnect you with the wind, the moment, and yourself. They make the world feel lighter — and somehow, euphoria. Meet Eddie Rodriguez - the Kite King of Florida. https://angelsdemonspodcast.com/audio/eddie-kite-king/

They say that ‘ past is prologue’: our past directs our destiny. This rings true for me. Professionally, I spent the first thirty-seven years working in Manhattan as a cosmetic dentist. It was lucrative and very demanding work. I felt like I was wearing “golden handcuffs. ” The only way I was able to optimally perform was revisiting the days of my youth where I spent countless hours helping my dad build his incredible gardens. I spent 15 years in this form of garden therapy at my home in Bucks County, Pa before I discovered that “horticultural therapy” was a profession I could both study and share. I decided to leave dentistry, and become trained as a horticultural therapist.
My lifelong training and practice of the science and art of dentistry paved the way for me to also train as a landscape designer. With these complementary certifications, I was invited to be part of a design team for creating a healing garden at the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic and ultimately moved to Jacksonville . I am also a certified spiritual director in the Episcopal church and a forest therapy guide. The mission of my business, Trey Gardens, LLC, to design garden spaces, and plant-based activities to deepen our connection with Nature to improve well-being. I work in commercial, residential, and institutional settings. I work with doctors, architects, builders, nurses, business and homeowners alike. My life purpose and passion are aligned in ways that I could never have imagined.

What happens when a parent’s challenge becomes a mission that transforms thousands of lives? On Angels and Demons, the podcast that reminds you “You Are Not Alone,” we talk about the real battles behind mental health, resilience, and hope.
Today’s guest turned personal struggle into powerful advocacy. After navigating life with a daughter who is non-verbal and profoundly affected by autism, she stepped far beyond her own family’s story to fight for children, teens, and adults with autism across the country. For more than a decade, she brought that fight to Washington, advocating at the national level, and later founded an organization dedicated to helping families access support, resources, and community.
Her leadership has earned recognition from the PGA TOUR, the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach, the Ponte Vedra Chamber of Commerce, and her alma mater for her extraordinary commitment to enriching autistic lives. Her mission is simple but powerful: Helping Enrich Autistic Lives. Please join me in welcoming the founder of the HEAL Foundation… Leslie Weed. When Tina came to the studio to film this episode, she approached Joy with a request: once every two weeks, she wanted to offer a free yoga class for anyone in pain—those overwhelmed by life, struggling with addiction, or carrying emotional burdens of any kind. These sessions have been deeply moving. There have been many tears. They are raw, emotional, and honest. They go straight to the core of why we are doing what we’re doing with the Angels and Demons Podcast.
